BLINN BOARD APPOINTS CHARLES MOSER TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Blinn College thanked two former members of its Board of Trustees on the same night that it welcomed a new board appointee and approved its contract with incoming district president Dr. Mary Hensley.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the board appointed former Brenham Banner-Press publisher Charles Moser to serve through May 2017 and read resolutions in appreciation of Leon Toubin and Carolyn D. Miller, CPA, in appreciation of their service to the College and its students.
“I would like to thank everyone who expressed interest in serving Blinn College students as a member of the Board of Trustees,” said David Sommer, board president. “All the candidates expressed their heartfelt passion for this college, and we thank them for their support of Blinn and its mission to serve our students and the community.”

Named Blinn’s person of the year in 2014, Moser served as editor and publisher of the Brenham Banner-Press from 1970-2010. He has served as director and president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association (TDNA), director of the Texas Press Association, and has been a recipient of the Frank Mayborn Award for Community Leadership from TDNA and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Print Journalism award from Sam Houston State University’s School of Mass Communication.
Toubin was first appointed to represent Precinct 4 in 1992 and served an accumulated nine years as the board’s vice president and four as secretary.
During his tenure, Toubin saw Blinn more than double in size from 8,066 students to 19,317 last Fall. With that enrollment growth came a construction boom, including the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex, the Brenham campus Administration Building, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, student apartments and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall. Additionally, Blinn’s Health Sciences Division is housed at the 53,000-square foot Texas A&M Health Science Center in Bryan.
Miller served on the board from 2011-15, including duties as chair of the Audit/Budget/Investment Committee

and a member of the Policy/Long-Range Planning Committee.
Miller was part of the board’s unanimous decision in February to purchase 95 acres for the development of a second Blinn campus in Bryan. Blinn plans to develop this land into a 10,000-15,000 student campus that will allow the College to develop additional science, technology, engineering and mathematics offerings and expand its workforce, technical, research and health-related education programs.
In other business, Hensley is expected to sign her contract next week before beginning her duties July 1. She comes to Blinn from the Austin Community College District, where she served for 14 years, including the last six and a half as executive vice president of college operations.
