BLINN FOOTBALL FALLS TO #10 NAVARRO IN CONFERENCE MATCHUP

Blinn College football battled No. 10 Navarro College to a halftime tie, but the Bulldogs pulled away with 21 unanswered second-half points to defeat the Buccaneers 35-14 in a Southwest Junior College Football Conference matchup Saturday in Brenham, Texas.

The loss dropped Blinn to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Navarro opened the scoring in the first quarter before sophomore running back Bryson Batts answered with a 37-yard touchdown run with 13:42 remaining in the second. The score was Batts’ second touchdown of the season and tied the game at 7-7.

The Bulldogs regained the lead later in the quarter, but Bucs freshman running back Chad Gasper Jr. responded with a 23-yard touchdown trot with 5:41 left in the half. Gasper Jr.’s third touchdown of the season evened the score at 14-14.

Neither team scored again before halftime.

Navarro regained the lead with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter before adding another score in the fourth to pull away for the victory.

Blinn will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Kilgore College for a 3 p.m. SWJCFC matchup Saturday, Sept. 26, in Kilgore, Texas.

The Buccaneers defeated the Rangers 34-20 in a season-opening non-conference matchup Aug. 22 at Cub Stadium.
