The Blinn College women’s soccer team battled Angelina College to a 2-2 draw in a Region 14 match Friday in Lufkin, Texas.
The Buccaneers moved to 6-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Region 14 South division.
Blinn took an early lead when sophomore midfielder Lilly Arellano scored an unassisted goal in the fourth minute. Angelina answered in the 42nd minute, but freshman forward Amanda Millar put the Bucs back in front with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute.
Blinn held a 2-1 advantage at halftime and maintained its lead until the Roadrunners found the equalizer with eight seconds remaining in the match.
Sophomore goalkeeper Reese Cauthen recorded three saves for the Bucs, who finished with eight shots and two corner kicks.
“It was an emotional game, to say the least,” Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. “We are the team at the top of the table, and we are the team with the most games left, so we need to win out to stay at the top, win the South, and get home-field advantage.
“It’s going to take a lot out of this team, but we can do it. We are in control of our own destiny.”
The Buccaneers return to action at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they face Region 14 foe Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas.
