The Blinn College men’s soccer team scored five second-half goals to roll to a 6-1 road victory over Texas Southmost College in Region 14 action Tuesday in Brownsville, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 8-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in region play while remaining unbeaten this season when scoring at least three goals, moving to 8-0 in those contests.

“This was a great response from the squad today,” head coach Michael McBride said. “After a disappointing showing in the previous game, coming onto the road and earning a 6-1 Region 14 win is huge for us. Everyone contributed and played their part in the win, which is exactly the kind of momentum and team depth we need moving forward.”

It was also a historic night for McBride, who earned his 300th career victory as a head coach. McBride, in his eighth season with the Bucs and 27th overall, is now 300-128-28, including a 101-57-4 record with Blinn.

Texas Southmost struck first with a goal in the sixth minute, but freshman forward Vukasin Ivanovic answered for Blinn in the 19th minute off assists from freshman defender Lobokola Enduki and freshman midfielder Noah Schroder.

Ivanovic’s 14th goal of the season moved him within two of tying Blinn’s single-season record for goals by a freshman, set by David Garcia with 16 in 2022. Ivanovic is currently tied for fourth in program history for single-season goals and ranks tied for fourth in single-season points with 32.

The Bucs took control after halftime, scoring five times in a span of 20 minutes.

Freshman forward Cole Hernandez put Blinn ahead in the 52nd minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Paolo Imeneo and Schroder, who added a goal of his own in the 55th minute.

Sophomore forward Nelson Andrade extended the lead in the 65th minute with Enduki providing the assist. Enduki scored in the 69th minute before Andrade capped the scoring in the 72nd minute on a play assisted by freshman forward Greatiyke Nwosu and sophomore forward Joseph Udedi.

Sophomore goalkeeper Samir Bristol earned the win after spending the majority of the match in goal, improving to 7-2-1 this season. The victory tied him for sixth in Blinn’s single-season records. Bristol also ranks third in program history with 12 career victories.

The Bucs outshot the Scorpions 24-5 and held a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal. Blinn also earned three corner kicks while limiting Texas Southmost to one.

Tuesday’s result marked the second goal Texas Southmost has scored against Blinn. The Scorpions’ only other goal in the series came during an 8-1 Bucs victory on Oct. 15, 2024. Blinn has outscored Texas Southmost 25-2 across seven matchups since the Scorpions launched their program in 2023.

Blinn continues its season with a region clash at Louisiana State University-Eunice at 7 p.m. Friday in Eunice, Louisiana. The Bucs will aim for a regular-season sweep of the Bengals after securing a 3-0 home win on Sept. 25.
