BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS TAX RATE & BUDGET

Members of the Brenham school district board of trustees are expected to set the date for a public meeting to hear comments about the proposed tax rate when they meet today.

BISD’s financial director Kim Horne told the board at their last meeting, the tax rate for the next fiscal year will likely stay at $1.13 per $100 valuation--the same as this year’s rate.

Tax appraisals have the property values for the district up, which will mean more revenue for the district.

Horne says the budget for the coming year will be nearly $40 million.

The board has already approved a district-wide salary increase that will move a starting teacher’s salary to $40,000 a year.

The board will meet today at noon in the district’s administrative headquarters, 711 Mansfield.
