BLINN ALUMNI AND FRIENDS WELCOME PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Blinn College alumni welcomed prospective students to Blinn College on Saturday, complete with a hot dog cookout and the excitement of college football.

Blinn’s Alumni & Friends Association hosted a tailgate party prior to the game and spoke to prospective students about their experiences at Blinn.

Prospective students received a complete campus tour, learned about admissions, housing, financial aid and student organizations, and were introduced to programs such as the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn.

“This was a good way for the alumni to partner with the prospective student relations on campus and get in front of high school students and their families and show the pride they have in Blinn,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, alumni relations director. “This is where students can get a foundation for their education before transferring to a four-year school.”

After information sessions at the Student Center, prospective students were invited to Blinn’s football game against Kilgore College Saturday afternoon, where they formed a spirit line for the football players entering the field.

Taylor Abadie from Elkins High School made a 20-yard field goal during halftime to win a $500 book scholarship.

“Today was pretty fun,” Abadie said. “I am looking to study business and I received a lot of good information at Blinn. I think I will come here to take advantage of this scholarship.”

Blinn will have two more Brenham campus preview days on Feb. 12 and March 11, and will host Bryan campus preview days on Dec. 11, Feb. 5 and March 4. Prospective students can register online at www.blinn.edu.

“We just try to make students aware that if you get involved then you have a better chance to succeed,” said Myron Dippel, coordinator of prospective student relations. “Students were really excited about the visit and asked some really good questions.”
