BURTON ISD TO HOLD BURTON HIGH SCHOOL ROCK BUILDING GRAND OPENING

  

The Burton Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a Grand Opening and Texas Historic Landmark Dedication of the Burton High School Rock Building on Thursday, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at 917 North Main Street in Burton.

The Burton Independent School District Board of Trustees in 2014-2015 began the High School Rock Building renovation project under the direction of Marcus Broesche-President, Terri Smith-Vice President, Misty Lucherk-Secretary, Demetrius Colvin, Sr., Felton Cox, Jeff Harmel, and Ronnie Hohlt. Mr. James M. Palmer was the Superintendent at the time.

Burton Independent School District was deeded land in 1874 to construct public schools. Burton Free School was erected in the mid 1870’s just east of downtown. Classes began in 1878. Burton High School was the second public school building constructed in Burton in 1937 with locally available building materials in Rustic and International styles. This two story building was funded by the Works Progress Administration, designed by local architect Travis Broesche, and constructed by local builder Will Weeren.

The current 2015-2016 Burton Independent School District Board of Trustees who have seen the project through its completion include Demetrius Colvin, Sr.-President, Misty Lucherk-Vice President,  Ronnie Hohlt-Secretary, Felton Cox, Ande Bostain, Jeff Harmel, and Brian Jaeger. Dr. Edna Kennedy is the Superintendent of Burton Schools.

The project Architect was TSG Architects AIA. The Civil Engineer was Jones & Carter, Inc. The Structural Engineer was Intelligent Engineering Services, LLP. Mechanical Engineer was S. Kanetzky Engineering, LLC. The General Contractor was Collier Construction.
