2015 SAW GREAT THINGS FOR THE CITY OF BRENHAM

  

The City of Brenham experienced many new and exciting things, as well as challenges in 2015.

City Manager Terry Roberts tells a little bit about the events that made 2015 an exciting and dynamic year, the first being a look at the property tax rate for the city.

 

The second story of note according to Roberts was the sales tax rate and its relationship to the city’s finances.

 

Also a topic of interest is Washington County taking over 911 dispatch service from the City of Brenham.

 

Some employers in the City also experienced layoffs, including Blue Bell and Stanpac and Valmont Industries. Blue Bell and Stanpac are in the process of returning laid off workers back into service.

Other important stories of 2015 were the renovation of the Nancy Carol Roberts Library, and the construction of the new Animal Shelter, the renovation of the Brenham Fire Department’s living quarters.

Other projects for 2016 include park improvements for the area between the library and Fireman’s Park.

This project will honor the life of Michael Mansfield Owsley, and his wife wishes to honor her late husband’s memory by funding this park expansion. The newly constructed playground adjacent to the new library will be names Michael Mansfield Owsley.

There were also changes in city administration, including the retirement of City Manager Kyle Dannhaus, who was replaced with Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps.

A new Brenham City Engineer, Lori Lakatos was hired this month and the City Prosecutor position was given to Russell Noe
