SNOOK I.S.D. GETS REPRIEVE FROM STATE
The state has granted the Snook school district a one-year extension to continue its academic recovery.
Had the one-year abatement not been handed down, the school district, which was designated in October as Not Accredited -- Revoked, would have faced the possibility of being absorbed into a neighboring school district.
Snook Superintendent Brenda Krchnak (KIRK-nock) said just because the school district has been given some reprieve doesn't mean that it has any time to ease up on its efforts to improve its testing scores.
Snook school board president Kristine Brisco also expressed relief that the state agency would be working with the school district to give the administration time to turn things around.
Texas Education Agency spokeswoman DeEtta Culbertson said that the school district's performance will be evaluated again in August and that a score of "Improvement Required" for academics or "Substandard Achievement" for financial accountability will once again find the district designated as Not Accredited -- Revoked.
The school district has logged four years in a row of low academic accountability ratings.
