FORMER PRAIRIE VIEW FOOTBALL PLAYER SHOT TO DEATH

  

A former football player at Prairie View A&M is dead after a shooting at a late-night party, Wednesday night.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting death of 22-year old Darius Matthew Edwards, a former Prairie View A&M football player.

Edwards was a member of the 2011 recruiting class, but never played a game for the Panthers due to injuries.

The shooting happened just after midnight at a residence in the 23000 block of FM 1098 in Hempstead.

Sheriff's deputies were called out to a large party, and upon arrival, discovered Edwards, who had been shot several times.  He was taken to Bellville St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say there are no suspects identified at this time. Witnesses are being interviewed.

The investigation is being conducted by The Waller County Sheriff's Office and The Texas Rangers.
