Please help me to understand just what is expected from Supt. Jackson, Principals, etc in regards to discipline. Some students are going to be a discipline problems, and it does not matter what is done.
ISS (in school suspension) – they don’t want to be in class, therefore ISS is a joke to them – they return to class and do the exact same thing as before. I have witnessed this many times over! Supension – some don’t want to be in school anyway, and so they are free to roam the streets during school hours – NOT GOOD for anyone – Idle mind…
How can this be fixed? It will have to start in HOME. Parents need to PARENT!!! Set boundaries early on and consequences for over stepping them. Parents will need to take a stand and don’t deviate!
Most of the kids with discipline issues have parents that have discipline issues.(They will be the ones yelling the loudest and blaming someone else). Until you make the parents attend the ISS with the kids, nothing will change. Plus, if the kid is suspended then BISD does not get paid. No student, no pay. Thank You State of Texas Education Cluster.(what a joke that is)
So, sssshhhhhhh, we cant expel them, that is what they want and we dont get paid…
If I would have acted the way some of these kids act in school, my parents would have whooped me good, Oh wait… We cant do that anymore either..
So what again are we looking at Dr. Jackson to fix???? something he has no control over.
Dr. Jackson is expected to firmly and unequivocally lead by setting a discipline policy that is strong and fair and then working to make sure it is consistently enforced in each school. The teachers need to know that both he and the principals have the support they need to do their job and that kids who are going to destroy the learning environment will be dealt with.
The problem is that those that do not want to be in school are being allowed to be rude, disrespectful. and disruptive to the classroom and little to nothing is being done to correct the problem. Some students at young ages can be helped if a strong and consistent program of discipline is enforced from the principal on down. Sadly, this is not happening on some campus locations. In other cases when the student simply refuses to follow the rules, the student should not be allowed to remain in the classroom disrupting the learning process for other students, but yet again nothing is being done to support the teachers in fixing the problems. Teachers are even being told not to refer students to the office because it looks bad to the state, and when they do refer them, little to nothing is being done. The teachers cannot do their job without support from their principals and other administrators. It is also time the we have the guts to tell parents when their kids are bad and not back down that discipline and order will be enforced. The reports are that turnover at year end could again be high and many of the teachers who could stay are opting to retire or leave because it has gotten so bad. Something must be done!
I sincerely hope that Dr. Jackson will spend some time during this discussion talking about what he is going to do to help fix the chaos and lack of discipline at many of our schools.
