FAYETTE ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE WARNS OF PHONE SCAM

Fayette Electric Cooperative is urging caution this week after one of its members was specifically targeted in a recent phone scam.  icon-phone scam2

An unknown caller, claiming to be sponsored by Fayette Electric Cooperative, is falsely informing members that the government is forcing small utility companies to release customers to environmental programs related to solar power.  The male caller claims to be promoting a government program called the “alternative energy incentive program”.   He did leave a return phone number which is a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) number that cannot be called back.  FEC researched the number given, and numerous complaints were listed – many alleging suspicions of fraud.

These calls are part of a utility fraud scheme to seek personal banking information.

If you should receive a suspicious call such as this, hang up and call Fayette Electric Cooperative at 979-968-3181 to report the details of the call.
