FORMER TEXAS A&M PRESIDENT MEETS WITH TRUMP
The former leader of Texas A&M University met with President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday about becoming his agriculture secretary.
Elsa Murano currently serves as the director of the Borlaug Institute at A&M, which focuses on helping small-holder farmers out of poverty and hunger through agriculture science.
Murano is one of three people from Texas being considered for the position. Donald Trump’s aides say he has already met with Susan Combs, the former Texas Ag Commissioner and former Texas Comptroller. On Friday, Trump will meet with current Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.
Murano led Texas A&M from 2008 to 2009 and previously served as vice chancellor and dean of the school's College of Agriculture and Life Science. Prior to that, she was U.S. undersecretary of agriculture for food safety under former President George W. Bush.
