LOCAL AT&T SERVICE INTERRUPTED
UPDATE:
Local customers of AT&T lost cellular phone service Wednesday afternoon.
AT&T issued a statement Wednesday evening saying that due to a fiber cut, some customers in the Cypress, Waller, Prairie View, Hempstead, Brenham and Bellville areas were experiencing issues with their wireless and wireline services.
A map on AT&T’s outage report website showed the area of service interruption was centered directly over Brenham.
As of this (Thursday) morning, we’ve gotten several reports that cellular service in Brenham is back up and running for many people, however the AT&T outage map still shows area service interruption in Brenham and surrounding areas.
EARLIER:
Local customers of AT&T cellular phone service have been without service since Wednesday afternoon.
AT&T customers in areas including Brenham, Bellville, Hempstead and Prairie View have been without service throughout Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after 4:00 p.m., service was back up for a brief time, but soon was back down again.
A map on AT&T’s outage report website shows the area of service interruption is centered directly over Brenham.
There’s no word from AT&T as to the cause of the service disruption to its towers west of Houston. Officials say the service could be out for up to three days.
This event made me miss my old (non VOIP) land line. I did wonder what children and millennials were doing without a smart phone. My first thought was THE SNOWFLAKES ARE MELTING! THE SNOWFLAKES ARE MELTING!
Very interesting to me- I have AT&T and had NO IDEA the service was down… Reading the comments it is absolutely unbelievable to me how many people can not function with out their phone. For crying out loud the world does not revolve around phones and technology contrary to what most think.. I am so thankful my life is like it is.
And this is why our society is how it is , it’s 12 hrs w/o a phone and Yall can’t function!!!! What happens if the power goes out for a week… take time to teach your kids about a simpler way of life..and if it’s an emergency take care of it. I sure you have a car or a Neigbors that would help.
No wonder there were so many teens and kids outside yesterday, they all had to actually “speak to one another instead of texting each other sitting next to them” people need to get their faces out of their phones or tablets!! What would they have done 25-30 years ago?
Gimme a break – I spent 13 months in Vietnam and never made a single phone call in 13 months. A letter could take up to 6 weeks to reach us. No one can tell me that staring at your crotch 6 hours a day is “normal” – Gimme a break.
Having SuddenLink for land line (cheap), internet, and TV…plus Sprint for cell…was reassuring during the ATT situation. Lesson learned…bundling EVERYTHING might not be so smart after all!
Rather than be mad at AT&T you should direct hostilities to the construction crew who dug through a fiber cable.
Hopefully no one had an emergency that cost them their home to a fire or their very life because they couldn’t call for help. Keep that perspective when you type some asinine comment about going outside to relax. For while it’s true those of us who didn’t have an emergency were just inconvenienced… but someone who had an emergency was put at risk.
The outage map published on the ATT internet site revealed a connected outage from coast to coast. Listed cities of LA, NY, Austin, ElPaso. Same for Direct TV. And all that from a cut cable on Mason Rd. On 290? Unfortunately I live near EMS, no sirens for hours, which is highly unusual. Most do not know you can text 911, even though you cannot call. And yes, enable phone thru settings to work on wifi.
Put your phone down and go outside for awhile get some sun on your shoulders
Well the problem with having no other way to communicate other then cell phones, is simple, what else is different than way back then? Get a land line as well. Boom! problem solved. They are dirt cheap these days everyone get one rather then complain when our precious cell phones dont have Service.
@Mom – Funny..back in the olden days pre-1990’s…I don’t know how we ever picked our kids up from school without cellphones. I hope you have a backup plan now.
I’m from the ‘olden days’. We used pay phones and land lines and always carried change for a phone call.
well, just try to find a pay phone these days..
Set your phone settings to allow wifi calls. You will be able to make/receive calls if you’re connected to wifi network.
They better give us some credit. .
I agree!
My Uverse internet went down at 1 PM (Wednesday) and just now came back up at 1 AM (Thursday).
12 hours with no Internet (iPad wouldn’t work due to no satellite connectivity), and my business is 100% internet and telephone centered! Ouch!!
Which officials say it’s going to be down for three days?
They said it was brought up shortly then went back down. Read, people. It may not even be the tower, it may be something in the line. It’s a lot harder than you think locating a specific break in a 90+ mile cable. Once that is done, there is only so much they can do so quickly. I know you want your lovely phones back, but don’t you think they are working to the best of their ability seeing as how many people are affected? Don’t you think they would rather be home with their families eating dinner or finally taking off those hot work boots, sitting down in a soft chair and relaxing? Take this time to read a book, do aerobics, finally clean out that bedroom that you haven’t touched since you’ve moved in a year ago.
I had a child staying late after school today and didn’t know what time to pick her up at AND I have a husband driving to west Texas tonight… so yeah, I need my lovely phone. That way, I know that my family is safe. It’s the reason we have AT&T cell phones. Get off your high horse!
That’s their job!!! I couldn’t get in touch with my 13 year old daughter for two hours…. yes, we depend on our “lovely” phones way too much, but that’s why I spend an arm and a leg every month on their services!!! So, yea, they need to get them fixed asap…. like I said, it’s their job!!!!
If you you OPEN YOUR EYES it WAS NOT AT&T’S FAULT!! Find the company that cut the line and go after them!! It happens
Aren’t they supposed to call before they dig?!
Yeah I have a kid at home with a sitter all day while I am at work. She does not drive and my immediate neighbors are usually not home when I am at work so my sitter is left with no way to communicate if something were to occur with my child, my home, or herself.
That probably why his name is former line tech.
I pay my for service I except to get with I’m paying for.
I have a job that it depends using my phone
So those tech need to do there job and fix it
So I can get back to work
What an offensive post. My “lovely phone” is very important and I pay ALOT each month for the phones I provide for my family. My phone is used for critical contact and communication with my family and business and serious issues arise when it does not work. I am sorry the tech’s have to work to fix the issue, but it is in fact their JOB which they are PAID for. When these phones don’t work it puts people’s safety at risk. I have to question why a company the size of AT$T does not have a back up plan/redundancy in place to prevent issues like this. Is this multibillion dollar companies infrastructure really that fragile?
Secondly, will my bill be reduced for the hours of service that my services were unavailable to me. Will they reimburse my business for the many hours of lost productivity as we sat in front of our isolated computers unable to conduct business because the services we page HUGE amounts of money to ensure works all the time?
I hear what you are saying line tech! Unfortunately our lives are so intertwined with technology that we go a bit loopy when we lose them. I also understand the other comments on here about needing access to our kids. It was a crazy, stressful issue! But the good part is that we have been shown that we need back up plans!! I am going to get a landline and keep minutes on my OnStar account. I appreciate the men and women who worked tirelessly getting this issue resolved. I know it was not easy and it was exhausting. This was not the result of AT&T doing anything wrong. It was an accident plain and simple. I can understand accidents and therefore I am not going to ask for a credit because AT&T worked hard to fix it. I feel as if we have lost patience as a society. And it was nice to be in the “good ole days” again. My kids just don’t know what they are missing!!!
An AT$T fiber cable was cut by a construction crew near Mason Road and Hwy 290. A tedious task to make repairs is in progress.
Thank you.
I drove by the back side of 290, feeder road at the pawn shop, and picked up service for a little bit. But as soon as I turned on 577, out again.
Our service has not been restored. It is 5:20. We are in the Bleiblerville area.
Neither has mine.
The AT&T Service for cell phones has NOT been restored.
No they arent back up yet!
Our internet and cell phones are still out.
Still no cell service on Hwy 36 S near the State Supported Living Center
Umm, who has service? Because mine is surely not back up!!!
mine is still out they told me it could be out till the 24th.
