BELLVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATH OF A SEALY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT
A Bellville man who was responsible for killing a Sealy High School student just days away from her graduation, was sentenced to deferred adjudication probation after he pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter. .
Eighteen year old Kristen Murray was killed when she was ejected from the pickup truck that Jonathan Galvan was driving on a farm to market road in Waller County, last May.
Reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety say Galvan braked suddenly while driving on a bridge on FM 529 in Waller County about ten miles from Bellville last May 28th. Another pickup truck right behind them, tried to pass them, causing Galvan’s pickup truck to lose control. He hit a guardrail, causing Murray to be ejected from her vehicle. Murray was declared at the scene.
Galvan pled guilty last Friday before District Court Judge Albert McCaig in a courtroom in Waller County and was sentenced to ten years deferred adjudication probation. He must also pay a $4000 finje and perform 260 hours of community service. The judge also ordered Galvan to wear an alcohol detection device and attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings.
Murray was to have graduated from Sealy High School just days later.
Galvan was at first charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony, but the charge was reduced in a plea deal.
