FAYETTE COUNTY OPRY TO FEATURE THREE PERFORMERS
The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their monthly Opry on Monday, March 20th at the KC Hall in La Grange.
The show, which will feature three different performers, starts at 7:30 p.m.. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $5.00.
Performers include Mary Dooley, who was born in Center, Texas and currently lives in Madisonville, Texas. She was influenced at a very early age by Loretta Lynn, and grew up listening to country music. She began singing at various venues across Texas in 1990. Mary has recorded one album and is currently working on her second one. She enjoys retired life and traveling, which allows her to continue pursuing what she loves to do: sing country music.
The opry will also feature Rocky King.
At an early age, Rocky was exposed to the music of the legendary Hoyle Nix and his West Texas Cowboys.
Rocky’s parents took him along to dances at The Stampede in Big Spring, where his love for the fiddle and country and western swing music was born. He was lucky to witness some of the finest dance music ever. On his fifth birthday, his parents bought him a fiddle and took him to Jody Nix for his first lessons, where the “fire” was lit that still drives him today. In his teenage years, Rocky learned easy tunes by ear, and realized he wanted to be a serious fiddle player.
He received several scholarships to South Plains College including the Tiny Moore Memorial scholarship, a huge honor to Rocky! During his college years he took lessons from Ricky Boen and Ricky Turpin. Rocky has had the honor to play with several bands in the past ten years that play the music he loves, including some of his heroes. He is appreciative of the people who have allowed him to play, and further his knowledge of real country music and western swing, including: Justin Trevino, Darrell McCall, Tony Booth, Fiddlin’ Frenchie Burke, Curtis Potter, The Outsiders, and many other great musicians. Rocky currently lives just south of Seguin, Texas and has assembled some great musicians to form the Rocky King Band.
Vincent Wayne will also be performing. Growing up in Yoakum, Texas, Vincent has always loved Country Music. He grew up listening to the classics with my parents and grandparents - which is why he still loves classic country music to this day - as well as, going through high school in the late '80s he was influenced by great artists - like George Strait and Garth Brooks. He started his first band while still in high school and loved performing live. While attending Southwest Texas State University, he started his second band - which enjoyed great success - and played all over the live music circuit in the San Marcos/Austin areas. Today, he finds himself playing in church, around campfires with friends and family, and the occasional gig at a local venue.
