NO TOLL FOR 249 EXTENSION

  

The Texas Transportation Commission has voted unanimously that the extension of Highway 249 in Grimes County will not be a toll project.

The commissioners voted 5-0, after local state Rep. Leighton Schubert urged them to designate the extension a non-toll project.

Schubert, who represents Grimes County, says he believes the state “should only be tolling where it is absolutely financially necessary and viable to do so.”

Schubert goes on to tell the commissioners, “the taxpayers of Texas expect us to ease their financial burden, not add to it.”

After the vote, Schubert said, “adding tolls to this already controversial project would have only added insult to injury.”

The Texas Department of Transportation is currently planning to extend Highway 249 from FM 1774 to Highway 105.
