HUNTSVILLE TEACHER/COACH ARRESTED

  

A coach at Huntsville High School has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student.

According to police, Dillon Gaffney was arrested on an out of county warrant from Matagorda County.

Gaffney is listed as the head girls soccer coach and a social studies teacher at Huntsville High School.

Gaffney was transferred to the Matagorda County jail following his arrest.

Reports indicate he was a coach and teacher at Palacios ISD when the improper relationship took place.

Huntsville ISD officials released a statement that read in part:  "The charges against the employee do not involve any Huntsville ISD student. While personnel matters are confidential, the Huntsville ISD community and stakeholders can be assured that swift action will be taken."

“The employee has been placed on leave and removed from duties at this time. As always, we will continue to cooperate fully with all authorities involved.”

Gaffney’s name has been removed from the Huntsville ISD's staff directory.

Gaffney, a native of Kildare, Ireland, was an assistant coach with Palacios ISD from June 2015 to August 2016 before being hired by Huntsville in June 2016.
