ARTS AND APPETIZERS RAISES FUNDS FOR BRENHAM ISD FOUNDATION

Destiny Parker displays her painting as Auctioneer Rusty Mertink spots another bid.

It was a different feel this year for the Brenham ISD’s Education Foundation’s Arts and Appetizers event.  The event normally draws a standing room only crowd at the Ant Street Inn Ballroom, but this year, because of COVID, it was invitation only with most everyone seated.  Other people could still watch and bid online though.  The live auction this year brought in over $18,000.  The highest bid for the live auction came from the Crain Group, a design-build company.  They paid $2600 for a donated two night stay in New Orleans.  The highest bid on a student painting came on the final bid of the night.  Alton Elementary School Principal Michael Ogg paid $2000 for a painting by 11th grade student Maria Vega Sanchez.  A painting by Destiny Parker was won for $1800 by the Architecture Firm of Plan North, who then donated the painting to the Brenham Elementary School teachers who were also bidding on it.  They agreed to pay their final bid of $1600 for the painting.  The totals for all of the items won’t be known until sometime Friday.

All proceeds from the event go to Brenham ISD art students and programs, as well as Brenham public schools.  High school and Jr. High students get to keep half of what their artwork sold for. The Brenham ISD Education Foundation uses the funds raised at the event for mini-grants that are awarded to teachers in the district for items to use in their classrooms.

Sponsors for the event include: Ant Street Inn, Appel Ford, ACU of Texas, BIG (Brannon Industrial Group), Bluebonnet Electric, Brenham Area Marble, Brenham National Bank, Brianna’s Fine Salad Dressing, Collier Construction, Combined Benefits Group, E3, Eric Nichols, Linebarger, LTY Engineers, Funky Art Cafe, KWHI/KTEX, Mattrezzz Guys, Mike Hopkins Distributing, Plan North, Joel & Denise Romo, Seidel Schroeder, Solutions in Sound, Texas Small Business Solutions and Van Dyke Rankin Insurance.
