BELLVILLE TUBE COMPANY REOPENING AFTER FIVE-YEAR CLOSURE

  

A steel mill near Bellville is being reopened.

Bellville Tube Company, which idled in 2014, has been reinstated by a U.S.-based private investment group.

The new ownership, which was not announced publicly, expects to start production in the third quarter of this year.  It expects to be at full capacity and provide up to 100 manufacturing jobs in 2020.

The production facility, located on approximately 80 acres of land outside of Bellville, has an estimated production capacity of 130,000 tons annually.  According to a release, the site is “well suited” for future facility expansion and to take advantage of stronger oil and gas markets.

Bellville Tube Company was opened in 1980 by Quanex Corporation.  The facility was purchased in 2000 by Lone Star Technologies, which was then bought by U.S. Steel Corporation.  The mill was closed in August 2014, then purchased by an private buyer on December 31, 2018, for an undisclosed value.
