BILL TRANSFERRING BURLESON CO. JURISDICTION FROM RENKEN PASSES

Lawmakers have passed legislation granting the Burleson County Attorney felony jurisdiction.
Senate Bill 891, consisting of several local bills that fit into one measure affecting court systems across Texas, officially passed Monday after going through conference committee.
Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken, who has also served as Burleson County’s District Attorney since 2013, said the bill transfers Burleson County jurisdiction from her to Burleson County Attorney Susan Deski.
Renken noted that Deski would not become a district attorney with this change, she would just be given felony jurisdiction in addition to her current responsibilities as county attorney.
Renken said the bill passing will allow her and her team to spend more time with the cases in the fast-growing Washington County.
The bill now awaits the Governor’s signature. Pending approval, it will become effective September 1st.
How do you prove jurisdiction?
In the UMCJ they prove jurisdiction as when I was inlisted I signed jurisdiction over and in any military court jurisdiction is proven… Please tell me how jurisdiction is proben? As jurisdiction can be brought up at any time in a case and it is an element of every case , but how is it proven and what gives you that power.
Thank you .
I was one of DA Rennin’s teachers and, from an early age, we knew she would do great things in her life story. The people of McLennan County applaud the wisdom of both Burleson and Washington counties in affording this talented attorney the opportunity to serve.
