20 STUDENTS STILL AT KRAUSE ELEMENTARY

UPDATE:

About 20 students, 4 families and 15 staff members are at Krause Elementary School.

The students were moved overnight from Alton Elementary.

School officials say the night went well and they’ll continue to care for the students until all are reunited with their parents.

Form BISD:

Due to heavy rains and flooding in Washington County, several Brenham ISD buses were unable to complete their route this afternoon to deliver students home. Those buses were rerouted to Alton Elementary School to safely unload students. As of 9:30 pm, we have fifty students at the Alton Elementary School campus, which is our designated safe shelter. We also have thirty staff members on site including the Brenham ISD Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, a school nurse, and several campus administrators. Parents have been notified that their children are safe and well cared for and all students are being fed and entertained by the staff on site. Our staff members are making every effort to keep children calm and parents well informed. We are grateful to the many caring adults who have worked all evening to feed and comfort our students. Brenham ISD has cancelled all classes and activities for Friday, May 27, 2016. We will continue to update parents, staff, and the community if changes in the situation occur.

  1. So thankful for our Brenham community filled with so many caring and willing volunteers. Faith Mission and BISD teachers and support staff created a safe environment for so many who needed the help! We are blessed!!

  2. Yes thank all of you who had to stay to help with the children who could not get home I personally had a grandchild that was in your care and she said everything was awesome so again thank you !!!

  3. This is clearly the backbone of the hardworking laborers of the educational system doing and serving our youth in tough times. This will always be remembered by those kids; it made a difference to them. These laborers I am sure are teachers, custodians, maybe a cook from the cafeteria. The folks that are in the trenches everyday and then give a little bit more at the end of the day; thank God for these unselfish mentors, that serve their community more from their heart than even their minds. Now, I’d like to see a local restaurant open up there banquet room or a few tables, and give these folks an evening meal, saying thank-you, a that-a-boy, a pat on the back. Not because these folks think they earned it, but because they deserve a firm handshake, simply saying thank-you from our community. And if you are one of these folks that helped, no matter what your role was, that being the teacher, the custodian, the cook, etc.; please be there to accept your thank-you; because you deserve it. Now, let’s see a restaurant or corporate entity set this up and put the handshake out there. Thank-you.
