BLINN-BRENHAM OFFERING JUNE COURSES IN CNA, FIRST AID, MACHINING, PHARMACY TECH, WELDING
New Blinn College District course sections in certified nurse aide, refrigeration, pharmacy technician, truck driving, and welding are beginning this June in Brenham.
Blinn’s technical and community education courses are designed to provide students the knowledge and ability they need to enter the workforce immediately after completion of the courses. Many of these courses do not require a high school diploma. As most of these courses are non-credit, students do not need to go through the College’s admissions process to enroll. Programs vary in length and are offered with daytime, evening, and weekend options.

CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE
NURA 1001: Nurse Aide for Health Care will run Mondays through Wednesdays, June 7 through July 21. The 80-hour course runs from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and is held at the Hodde Center.
The course provides students the knowledge and skills to provide care for residents of long-term care facilities and covers topics such as resident rights, communication, safety, reporting, and assisting residents. The course emphasizes effective interaction with members of the healthcare team, restorative services, mental health, and social services needs.
Students who complete complete NURA 1001 and NURA 1060, a 40-hour clinical experience that allows students to apply their skills and concepts in a professional environment, are eligible to take the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services Exam, which certifies them for employment as a nurse aide in the State of Texas.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurse aides earn a median hourly wage of $14.25 per hour, and Texas ranks among the top states in the nation in terms of nursing assistant employment.

CPR/FIRST AID
EMSP 1020: CPR/First Aid is an eight-hour course that will take place Friday, June 18, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Hodde Center. The course proides an introduction to basic first aid, CPR, and the use of automated external defibrillators, commonly referred to as AEDs. Students who complete the course earn a Blinn College certificate.

MACHINING
MCHN 1038 Basic Machine Shop and MCHN 2003: Fundamentals of CNC Setup and Operations run Monday through Wednesday, June 7 through Aug. 6, at the Hodde Center.
MCHN 1038 runs from 8:00 a.m. until noon and introduces students to machining fundamentals. In the course, students use basic machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, power saws, and bench grinders. An emphasis is placed on shop safety, housekeeping, and preventative maintenance.
MCHN 2003 runs from 1:30-4 p.m. and covers the programming and operation of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine shop equipment. Students learn the differences between conventional and CNC machines, to demonstrate the operations of CNC machine controls, and to utilize CNC machine applications for machining operations.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, machinists earn a median salary of $47,040 per year.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
PHRA 2071: Special Topics in Pharmacy Technician runs June 7 through Aug. 13. This course is offered online and provides an overview of the qualifications, operational guidelines, and job duties of a pharmacy technician.
Through the course, students learn the laws and ethics governing the pharmacy practice, key medical terms and abbreviations, and professional safety standards. Students who complete the three-course program are eligible to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.

WELDING
WLDG 1425: Intro to Oxy Fuel Cutting/Welding, WLDG 1428: Intro to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), WLDG 1434: Intro to Tungsten Gas Arc Welding (TIG), WLDG 2447: Advanced Gas Metal Arc Welding, and WLDG 2443: Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) will be offered Mondays through Wednesdays, June 7 through Aug. 6, at the Hodde Center. Each of the courses applies toward Blinn’s Level 1 and 2 welding certificates and its Associate of Applied Science Degree in Welding Technology.
Blinn also is offering its non-credit WLDG 1025: Intro to Oxy Fuel Cutting/Welding, WLDG 1028: Intro to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and WLDG 1034: Intro to Tungsten Gas Arc Welding (TIG) Mondays through Wednesdays, June 7 through Aug. 6 at the Hodde Center.
At the National Welding Inspection School in Burton, Blinn is offering QCTC 1043: CPWI+V (Certificate of Pipeline Inspection) from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 7-11.
