CORRECTION: BLINN WILL EVALUATE ALL SPORTS IN SEPTEMBER

Blinn College has issued a correction to information they provided KWHI regarding fall sports workouts.

Thursday afternoon KWHI received a statement from Blinn Information that earlier comments they provided that spring sports would not be participating in practices, scrimmages, or other activities during the Fall was in error.

According to Director of Communications Richard Bray, "We will review practices and activities for all sports in September.

The NJCAA has announced schools can use their discretion for limited fall workouts. The NJCAA is permitting non-championship fall sports like softball and baseball to begin practice August 31st.  Competition can be held from September 5th through October 31st.

The NJCAA has shifted all close-contact fall sports to the spring semester. These sports include football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.  All winter sports competition will begin in January with a majority of championship seasons moved from March to April. These sports include men's and women's basketball.  Baseball, softball and golf are scheduled for a spring start up.

As for the Blinn Marching Band, Bray says the marching band is an academic class, and that class will proceed, but with modifications. “The band will not be marching this fall, but will instead play while socially distanced outdoors. In inclement weather, a limited number of band members will be able to practice in the band hall (again, socially distanced).”

Blinn officials say they hope that these steps will allow for a safe return to athletic activities as quickly as possible while protecting the health of the campus community.

Bray apologized for the erroneous information regarding this story.
