BLINN TRUSTEES TO CONSIDER RELLIS PROJECTS

The Blinn Board of Trustees will address several items pertaining to the RELLIS Campus at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.

The board will look to award a construction contract to Marek Brothers Construction of College Station, for renovations to Building 8004 on the RELLIS Campus. Architects completed the design in December of 2018, and received bids for the project in January.

Administrators will look to execute a contract with Marek Brothers Construction for $792,000. The budget for the project is $573,000, with funding available in the 2016 series bond funds.  Construction is expected to begin in March, and complete in June.

In addition, board members will consider seeking bids for services related to the parking, grading, and drainage improvements project on the RELLIS Campus. The civil engineering firm of Kimley-Horn has started designing a project to add parking controls, increase the number of parking spaces, and adjust the grading and drainage next to the current parking at the Walter C. Schwartz Building.

The budget and construction schedule is still being developed, but preliminary construction estimates run around $680,000. Funds for the project are available from the remaining balance of 2016 bond funds.

The board will also look to negotiate a cooperative use agreement with the Texas A&M University System for building space on the RELLIS Campus. The College District will use the shared use space in a 24,000 square foot complex to expand its workforce education programs, such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and welding.

The board will meet tomorrow evening at 6 p.m., in the third-floor board room of the Brenham Campus Administration Building.
