Blinn women’s soccer defeats Jacksonville in overtime thriller, 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — Kaley Kasper scored two goals to lift the Blinn College women’s soccer team (1-3, 1-2) to its first win of the season against Jacksonville College on Sunday afternoon. Kasper scored a golden goal in overtime to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 victory over the Jaguars.

Goalie Hope Hillhouse was strong on defense for the Buccaneers, recording five saves in the game.

“We are happy to get our first win, but it wasn’t our best performance,” said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach.

The game remained scoreless until the 80th minute when Kasper scored a goal for Blinn. Jacksonville pushed the game into overtime by scoring in the 89th minute.

Kasper scored Blinn’s next goal in the 93rd minute for the Buccaneers to seal the win.

Next, the Buccaneers will compete against Mountain View College in its home opener at Rankin Field on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m. The men’s team will take the field against Mountain View at 7 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — Blinn College men’s soccer (2-2, 2-1) displayed a strong offense and defense to earn a 3-0 conference victory over Jacksonville College on Sunday afternoon.

“I am very pleased with all of the players for getting another win,” said Michael McBride, Blinn head coach. “The defense has been really good for us in not allowing goals and scoring three goals today was fantastic.”

On defense, goalie JT McCoy led Blinn with five saves. On the offensive side, Farit Ha led with two goals, while Zane Marshall scored one. Ethan Unger and Seth Donelan each recorded an assist in the match.

In the 15th minute, Unger assisted Ha in scoring Blinn’s first goal for a 1-0 lead. In the 44th minute, Donelan passed the ball to Marshall who scored for the Buccaneers to lead 2-0 at the half.

Ha scored Blinn’s final goal on a penalty kick in the 54th minute for the Buccaneers to hold a 3-0 advantage.

Next, the Buccaneers will compete against Mountain View College in its home opener at Rankin Field on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. The women’s team will start the doubleheader against Mountain View at 5 p.m.
