BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS SEVERAL ITEMS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The Burton School Board will deal with several executive session items at Monday night’s meeting.

The board will meet to discuss the duties of the superintendent, athletic director, and high school and elementary principals.

Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy says board members requested to revisit the duties and contracts of administrative staff.  She also says any action will be determined and discussed during open session.

The board will also consider grievances and parent complaints.  Dr. Kennedy did not discuss the nature of those complaints, but she did say the grievances revolve around some of the same issues presented at the board’s last meeting in September.

In that meeting, several came forward to speak about a claim of inappropriate behavior towards a student by a staff member.  Trustees agreed to put new disciplinary measures into effect.

In other items, the board will receive a report from the principals, athletic director, and superintendent.  Trustees will also hold public hearing on the school district’s “FIRST” financial accountability rating.  In addition, they will discuss district safety and security.

The board will meet Monday at 6:45 p.m., at the administration office on 701 North Railroad Street.

  1. Why the rush to reconsider those contracts? The board has yet to hear all the rest of the grievances related to these administrators.
Rather than rushing to extend these contracts before all the facts are out about each of their behaviors, how about we wait until all these hearings pan out, then consider the contracts?

Also, I wonder what specific “new disciplinary measures will be put into effect”?

    1. “Here we go again” – just the facts here.

Actually, the board mandated itself to go over all three contracts to see if the goals were met for each principals and the AD before any contract was brought up.

This was done in April when the contracts were approved.

Don’t believe me? Please talk to Demetrius Colvin, who is on public record in the paper and here saying the goals were set due to issues in the past year.

In fact, BECAUSE of people such as yourself who were saying issues were happening they put in required goals.

Oddly enough, I seem to recall several people upset the board announced the trio had to have goals. They felt the board violated policy revealing this part of the contract agreement.

The only likely thing I see regarding contracts would be if they’re canceled at end of year. My understanding is they were extended to just the one year and for re-evaluation for another year in April.

PLEASE all – stop assuming stuff about this board. It doesn’t do anything except make people question your motives. How does that help the kids?

  2. What specific disciplinary action was put in place for the inappropriate behavior with that staff member to a student?
