CALDWELL ISD PART OF FREE COVID FREE TESTING PROGRAM
The Caldwell ISD is one of over 300 school districts in Texas taking advantage of the state’s free COVID-19 testing program.
Caldwell, the first district in the Brazos Valley to take part in the testing, will kick off the program in the next few weeks.
District Nurse Tracy Ayers, says they have a lot of students that don’t have insurance and don’t have an opportunity to go to a health care facility to get tested.”
Since August around 50 students and staff in the district have tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Andrew Peters says less than 10 percent of students are learning at home now.
The district will be responsible for distributing the tests. Peters and Ayers will go through special training and have a list of guidelines to follow.
Peters says the purpose of the program is to provide another option for students and staff and not a requirement.
Peters says the kits will be distributed to the district within the next two weeks.
