CASA FOR KIDS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

CASA for Kids is searching for additional volunteers.

The organization that provides court-appointed advocates for children in foster care will hold training courses through the month of February.  The group serves children in Washington, Austin, Waller, and Colorado Counties.

CASA volunteers, also known as Court Appointed Special Advocates, represent children that find themselves in the court system.  They assist these children in welfare cases, and help them navigate the foster care system.

According to CASA Executive Director Deanna Warmke, there are 118 children under state care in those four counties.  Warmke says the organization tries to have one advocate per case, which could involve one child or a group of children.

Advocate training sessions will be held on February 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, and 28th.  Each session will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at CASA’s location in Brenham on 1500 South Day Street.
