CITY OF BRENHAM CLOSING RESTROOMS IN PARKS, DOWNTOWN TO REDUCE SPREAD OF COVID-19

Starting tomorrow (Wednesday), visitors to any of the City of Brenham’s parks or to downtown Brenham will have one less facility available to them.

The City of Brenham is closing the restrooms at its parks and in downtown, in order to combat the spread of COVID-19.

While the restrooms may be closed, Public Works Director Dane Rau encourages residents to continue enjoying the city’s parks, as long as they continue to practice the health guidelines and procedures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The city will keep its parks, trails, and open spaces accessible as long as it is safe to do so.

For other COVID-19 information pertaining to the city, go online to www.cityofbrenham.org/covid19, or go to the Brenham Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

  1. Anyone with half an ounce of common sense is already sheltering in place. It’s the uninformed, misinformed, in-denial individuals who are carrying on as though these times were normal. So the question is: Why don’t our government officials want to protect those folks from their own ignorance—and, by doing that, help to protect the courageous individuals who leave their homes each day to do vital work?

  2. Everybody in brenham be safe I have older family members that live there and lots of friends I lived there over 40 yrs where I live now we had one case and they issued a shelter in place

  3. I do not understand this. If the parks are going to be open, why would you not have a place to wash your hands? The City offices are closed so why could the employees that would still like to have a paycheck not be assigned to cleaning the restrooms/playground equipment regularly? Just a thought as we all adapt to managing this situation.

    1. Maybe take some hand sanitizer along with you. Or soap, towel, and a bottle of water.

    2. First of all your not to use the equipment period! Whether they clean it or not. That was issued by our Governor, ( do not use benches, playground equipment, basketball areas etc)Take hand sanitizer with you,you should have it with you at all times and gloves.again these areas are used to exercise, walking,NOT A PLAY AREA,, stay home

    3. To my knowledge the city workers don’t clean the bathrooms; the residents from the local state school does in Brenham. They also pick up trash in every park in Brenham. I cant say for sure about who cleans the play ground equipment,. Is the equipment getting cleaned and sanitized? If so, by who? I would love to know. I believe that as a citizen we should know.

  4. Only have one entrance and exit to the stores and make people sanitize there hands before walking in. If you have a mask wear it ,incase you cough you keep it in place. If your not going to shut it down then you need to think on how to stop spreading even if it means standing in long lines. Don’t make my town look stupid!!

    1. Ppl should NOT be standing in long lines..GO HOME IF LINES ARE LONG,.stop asking others to think for you,THINK FOR YOURSELF,wear gloves, germ x your hands, wipe down your cart, stay away from others..STAY HOME,if you cant…. follow the CDC guidelines,be responsible for your own actions

  5. I’m so disgusted with everything concerning COVID19 in Brenham. I understand the concept of social distancing, but how can we distance ourselves if we can’t purchase necessary items online? We should be able to purchase everything online and have it shipped to our home. Closing bathrooms is a good idea, but they need to disinfect benches too.

  6. This is the best thing our city fathers can do to protect us? This won’t stop one turist from coming to brenham. Put a police car/ deputy at each west bound exit starting at the Brazos and keep the non washington county residents from exiting 290 !!! Before it’s too late.

    1. Wow..really?? Be very careful what you wish for,you or a family member may have an emergency and not be able to leave brenham, what then? Cant have it both ways, maybe you have to go to college station for medical help that you cant get here..OOPS they wont let you in bc your a non resident of college station…think before you comment!!

      1. People don’t get this and it will be too late to get back all the freedoms and liberties taken away under the guise of “protection”. It’s a virus, it’s gonna spread, no ones fault (although in this blame game society today that’s a foreign concept) and it will run its course. Unfortunately, people will get sick, some will die, but most will not. While that sounds horrible and I pray no one does, it’s not any different in terms of other viruses we have faced in the past. You can control your personal health by following washing hands and not touching face. However, locking down and posting officers to “police” us is venturing into very dangerous territory that will be next to impossible to get out of once started.

    2. This comment makes no sense. The spread happening in the area is from the community itself. People must be diligent and practice social distancing or this is just going to get worse.

    1. Actually by the guidelines / orders given by the Texas Governor nobody is to use any benches, tables, playground equipment, basketball quarts,etc..only use grounds to walk, sit.

  7. Great!! This must be our shelter in place order-close the bathrooms at the parks and downtown. REALLY!! Come on. Everyone knows this county needs to shelter in place, well not everyone, because obviously a lot of people Do not get it yet and follow the general guidelines and CDC recommendations or what the federal government has asked to take place.
