CONGRESSMAN BRADY ADDRESSES HIGH SPEED RAIL OPPONENTS

A crowd in the hundreds turned out Wednesday night in Navasota, for a public meeting with U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, to oppose the Texas High-Speed Rail project.

The Grimes County Expo Center hosted the town hall meeting of Texans Against High-Speed Rail.

Brady told the crowd that he has been fighting in Washington D.C. to deny construction of the High-Speed Rail in Texas.

Texas Central, the company that is in the works of developing the rail, says that it will run from Dallas to Houston, with a stop in Roans Praire.

Residents have said they are worried their land would be taken to build a railway they would never use.

The group's president Kyle Workman says the meeting was a way for residents to hear what their elected officials had to say, as well as an update on the progress.

Workman says the group, “…wants to make sure that both those who are directly impacted or non-directly impacted have a voice about something that is going to affect so many people.”

Texas Central officials have said, “Citizens and elected officials recognize this is the right project, in the right place, at the right time to be successful.  The majority of Grimes County residents look forward to welcoming the project and recognize the significance of the positive economic impact and jobs the Texas High-Speed Train will contribute to their community.”

  1. I do find it distressing that a private entity can be allowed to use eminent domain powers. However I also understand that this Corredor is already used by multiple High tension power lines and pipelines. Is the proposed rail line to be elevated as depicted in the artist renderings? Or is it to be just an Elevated earth and embankment that physically cuts Pastures in half. Infrastructure does need to change and be added to serve and ever-growing number of residence. I also am curious why politically resistance to this rail line is organized as opposed to a tollway better known as the Aggie Expressway is not mentioned? Seems to me that A tollway with a width of anywhere from 4 to 16 main lines, additional feeder lanes and The additional right of ways will substantially grab much more acreage and separate landowners with a much further driveTo the separated portions of their property. This really has me wondering why There is such outcry against the railway and Silence as regarding the tollway
