CONGRESSMAN MCCAUL DEFENDS VOTE

District 10 Congressional Representative Michael McCaul says he was right in voting against raising the debt ceiling and the re-opening of the government.

He said today (Monday) he realized the dire consequences this would have on the economy but also said the national debt of $17 trillion is not sustainable and would cause a massive economic downturn for generations to come.

Congressman McCaul says this concern is before a ‘super committee’ of the Congress and hopes they can resolve the nation’s debt problems.

All 144 votes against the raising of the debt ceiling were from Republicans. McCaul warns that the debt would result in rising interest rates and the only way to control it is to reduce and reform entitlement spending.  He says the defense budget has already been cut drastically.

  1. If the $17 trillion debt is so outrageous, why add $24 billion to it? This is how much it costed us, the tax payers, to keep the govt closed while the Congress played in the sand box!

    1. The constitution provides for repeal of a law by vote not refusing to pay for it. People , individually or collectively incur debt and are responsible for its repayment no matter how unpleasant. The debt has to be reduced gradually and not by shutting the United States down to the tune of millions more in expense. Wake up silver spoon politicians.
