  1. Dr. Jackson is an amazing Superintendent. Brenham ISD is so blessed to have him. It’s great that his peers in education can see this as well and is giving him the positive recognition that he so deserves.

    1. If there is one thing our local administration seems to get a lot of, it is recognition. I just wish they would recognize the problems going on the our school system, particularly at the elementary level and provide helpful and construction assistance.

      1. You seem like you might need a job change. What you are complaining about is a norm for all districts, not just BISD. Every teacher at any school district will have some of your same concerns that you keep commenting about throughout this section. That doesn’t mean for every positive comment stated you have to leave a negative comment or concern. This article is congratulating our superintendent on a job well done in spite of your many opinions. Congrats Dr. Jackson! It’s a great day to be a Cub! Be blessed!

      2. Have you reached out to them to ask for help? If you have any issue, talk to them instead of posting a public comment about it. They are getting recognition because they are doing something good! The whole district is doing good things, but people want to belittle it. Be a part of the solution and not part of the problem. There will always be issues in any organization. It’s how we handle those issues that say the most about us as citizens.

      3. You don’t have to write a negative comment for every positive comment. All of your comments is what every school district experience. Try to enjoy your summer in the meantime! ?

  2. I like how in here as well as other comments across this site, people mention turnover rate as being so absurd, but has anyone checked out TEA’s reports or just falsify a claim? Turnover rate for 2015-2016 was 15.5% for the district compared to 16.5% at the state level. For 2016-2017, it was 18.4% for the district compared to 16.4% at the state level. For 2017-2018, it was 13.6% for the district compared to 16.6% at the state level. I believe these are released in December each year so 2018-2019 is pending release, but the district’s numbers are very comparable and fluctuate like any other industry. And if you dig into the other reports out there comparing Brenham to school districts of similar size, it is lower than the average. Please step back and take a look at the whole picture at times. Teachers come and go in every single district across the state for numerous reasons (money, promotion, class size, location, etc.). I know Dr. Jackson, his staff, and the board can’t please everyone, but I do give them my utmost respect for handling things even when I have issues. Maybe people need to start getting on the agenda items a little more and/or actually address the board or Dr. Jackson in person to understand where they are coming from. Or maybe these same disgruntled folks should try out another district for comparative sake. Keep Brenham united folks and have a blessed day!

P.S. Let’s not talk about school testing. EVERYONE knows what a failure and joke that system is. Tests have been proven to have flaws and state still doles out tons of money to the pathetic vendor. Should probably direct any of those comments to Senator Kolkhorst, and Representative Leman. They’re the ones speaking on our behalf in Austin.

  3. “Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership……….ability to build effective employee relations…….student performance” I am sorry to say it, but I cannot see how this statement is true. Teacher morale is at an all time low, our school board is actively trying to find ways to give teachers less of a raise than the legislature intended, and we are seeing a high turnover rate. Our state standardized test scores are much lower than they have been under previous administrations and not showing any signs of improvement. I see lots of resume padding going on, but no real change in our schools

    1. This mindset is the reason that Coach Griffin decided not to accept the position as the Cubs head baseball coach. It is so easy to be a backseat driver and pass judgment when you are not the person who is making the the tough decisions for the district. And since you mentioned teacher raises, perhaps you should read and inform yourself about how the these raises are actually being funded. The Texas Legislature and Gov. Abbott took the praise and glory for teacher raises but left local districts to foot the bill. The money for the raises has to come from each individual school district. No one wants higher taxes, so where will these funds come from. I believe that teachers are deserving of a pay increase but our state politicians are counting on us not doing our diligence and accepting their explanation of how these raises will be funded. Education is a difficult business and I hope that Brenham ISD continues to see success but this can not happen unless its leadership is successful. Try praying for leaders like Dr. Jackson and the board make that they will make the best decisions for the district instead of passing judgement. We also have to read and become informed about the actual school funding from the state of Texas. I promise you if you do a little digging, you will learn that things are not exactly the way that governor and the state legislature have made them appear. I do believe that those in leadership roles should be held accountable but this should not be limited to Dr. Jackson. We should also hold Rep. Kolkhorst and others who represent us to the same standard, especially when it comes to public school funding. I believe that ultimately we all want the same thing, to see our community and schools be successful.

      1. I completely appreciate the response, but a backseat driver I am not, I am a passenger on the bus that is being driven pretty badly and it keeps getting worse over the years. I have watched as the administration and the school board have given “mid-point” pay raises that completely misrepresent what is actually being given to teachers making it appear to the public that they are getting nice raises when in fact teachers with tenure are getting much less than the stated percentage. This all happens while our administration has benefited from generous raises that far outpace teachers. I have watched discipline in our school continue to decline all while the administration continues to pat itself on the back and nominate itself for more awards. I have watched hard working tenured under appreciated teachers leaving in droves because they are so unhappy. You have challenged me a to do a little digging, however I challenge you to walk in the shoes of an elementary school teacher for a week or so. Try working till 8-9 o’clock at night while you watch your principal walk at the door at 4:30 sharp without a care in the world, leaving her teachers behind to do the impossible work load they are given. Try maintaining order in a classroom that always has several children from troubled homes with troubled backgrounds with ZERO support from your administration and ZERO resources for these kids who need the most support. The accountability should start right here in our administration building with people who will actually support and help teachers instead of lining up for their next award!

        1. If you are a teacher in the district, I implore you to go and talk to administration about the issues instead of cowardly making comments in the media. Shame on you for bashing the district that pays you. Shame on you for belittling leaders for their salaries. They have put in extra time to earn advanced degrees. Shame on you for not handling your concern more professionally.

  4. Don’t understand how the school gets a bad grade and a person thus in charge of it get a reward for good work. Doesn’t make since

    1. Answer: because campus leaders are responsible for their campus. Dr. Jackson works diligently and constantly to improve the district. Shame on you for downgrading someone who earns an award. Pray for leaders instead of putting them down. Ask how you can support them. You have no idea the long nights he spends praying and seeking wisdom on leading the district. You see him at all campuses every week and multiple events after school. He is also very committed and involved in this community.

If you have real concern for the district, stop being a social media troll and grow some courage. Say things to people’s face or shut up!
