This year, Faith Mission is hosting three interns, all from Prairie View A&M University, and all Social Work majors.  They are Allyson Cotton from Dallas, Toronica Duncan from Waco, and Shaetyra Mays from Killeen.

As part of Faith Mission’s intern program, students are required to complete a ten week, 400 hour field placement practicum.  Students are trained in various service areas within the organization, including shelter, food pantry, the Summer SMART program, and Camp Hoblitzelle.  The program not only provides a learning environment for students, but several live on the Faith Mission Campus.

Cotton said a traumatic experience as a child brought her to want to serve others.

Duncan said she was drawn to the Faith Mission program because of its diversity.

Mays said she expects to learn much during her time with Faith Mission, and believes that new knowledge will benefit her well in the future.

Faith Mission’s intern program began in 2008, and has hosted 60 students ranging from associates to doctoral level across seven different universities.  Students involved in the program have majored in subjects ranging from social work and education to business and ministry.
