FLOOD AWARENESS WEEK RECOGNIZED BY COMMISSIONERS

The Commissioners recognized Flood Awareness Week as designated by Governor Greg Abbot in court today (Tuesday).

County Judge John Brieden read the proclamation sent, which included a section saying, “As we approach the second anniversary of the tragic flooding of Memorial Day weekend in 2015, and after recent flooding in Central Texas, it is imperative that Texas unite and prepare for potentially sudden and violent acts of Mother Nature.”

Brieden added that he feels people “should not want to tempt the situation,” and that they should follow the mantra set forth by first responders and local and state government, and “turn around, don’t drown.”

Commissioner for Precinct 2 Luther Hueske added that drivers should not “get out and move barricades to go through water,” as these barricades are placed for public safety.

Flood awareness week began on May 22nd and will go until May 26th, but as the proclamation states, “dangerous floods and flash floods are possible throughout the year” and “can develop within minutes.”
