Galveston roughs up Buccaneers in double-header, 6-2 and 10-0

Blinn College scores only two runs in two games

GALVESTON, Texas – Blinn College baseball didn’t start out the conference season the way it would have liked as Galveston College protected its home field with a 6-2 and 10-0 victory Feb. 19 in Galveston.

The Buccaneers only picked up seven hits in the two games combined and the two losses starts off the conference record at 0-2 and 8-3 overall.

In the first game, the offense came a little too late for Blinn as it scored two runs in the seventh inning but the Buccaneers were trailing 6-0 before the inning. Galveston scored one in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth for its 6-0 lead and chased Blinn starter Seth Ballew after four innings and six earned runs. Hunter Lehman did come on in the fifth inning and didn’t allow a run in two innings of work.

The only runs for Blinn came in the seventh when Lehman nailed a double to start the inning and Conner Smith ripped a home run to right to make the score 6-2 but a fly out on the following at bat sealed the Galveston victory.

The offense never showed in the second game as Galveston racked up 10 runs. Kirby Peek started the game for Blinn and gave up eight runs but only four of those were earned in the loss.

Blinn will get another crack at Galveston College on Feb. 21 at Leroy Dreyer Field with another double-header starting at 2 p.m.
