INFANT GIRL KILLED IN WASHINGTON COUNTY ROLLOVER

A seven month old  infant girl died Tuesday after she  was critically injured in a one vehicle rollover in Washington County.  .

Reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety say a father was driving his two children home along FM 50 near Independence at 9:42 am Tuesday, when he fell asleep at the wheel, ran off the road, tried to  steer his way back, but  rolled over.  Ashuanti Kalice Mitchell was thrown from a red GMC and rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan.  She died two hours later.  DPS troopers considered calling in a PHI helicopter but opted for the ambulance.

The girl’s father and another two-year old child were also transported to the hospital but treated and released.

The accident remains under investigation, including a concern that the infant’s car seat was not properly installed.
