Kolkhorst confirmed her plans to run for the District-18 State Senate seat currently held by Glen Hegar.

Hegar is the Republican candidate for State Comptroller and is expected to win the seat.  That would then lead to a special election for the Senate seat, sometime next year.

Kolkhorst has served seven terms in the State House, first elected to the position in 2000.

Kolkhorst is chairman of the House Public Health Committee and a member of the County Affairs Committee and the Joint Committee of Oversight of Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency.

She has been named among the "Ten Best Legislators" by Texas Monthly magazine.

Richmond businessman Gary Gates recently announced he will also seek the District-18 seat.

  1. Tony,
Both are ELECTIVE/ELECTED offices. Every time there is an election, anyone with proper credentials is ALLOWED to try to win the position. I’m not sure if you are pointing at Mrs Kolkhorst, but if you are, have you been in her District during any part of these 7 terms? Whom would you suggest might have done better for those she represented during that time?

  2. Isn’t it about time to allow someone else to hold these public offices. I get so sick of career politician…
