REPORT: BULLET TRAIN WOULD BRING JOBS TO GRIMES CO.

A federal report says a Grimes County hub for the proposed high-speed bullet train could mean well over 100 new jobs for the area.

The Federal Railroad Administration says a hub in Roans Prairie could net 124 full time jobs for Grimes County.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement, released by the Federal Railroad Administration, says a path with the least environmental impact, would put the train's lone stop at a hub near State Highway 30 at State Highway 90 in Roans Prairie between Huntsville and College Station.

The report is available to the public on the Federal Railroad Administration website: https://www.fra.dot.gov/Page/P0700

The comment period begins on Friday, and continues through February 20.  Comments may be mailed to Kevin Wright at FRA or submitted through the FRA website.

  1. Did this same argument exist when we built the Houston International Airport?
Or the Sam Houston Tollway? I have no doubt.
What I find truly baffling, is any politician in our state objecting to the positives that this safe and environmentally friendly new rail corridor will provide. Not to mention the jobs it will create during construction and after. And there is really no comparison here to a crude oil pipeline or a nuclear waste dump that harbors potential for disastrous, unhealthy conditions that linger for years or more.
No matter how much we might want to see everything remain the same with our lives, state and country, progress prevails for the benefit of all.
    Welcome to the 21st century.

  2. Do we all enjoy going to the supermarket to find fresh fruits and vegetables year around? Do you like that your pharmacy always has the medication you need? How about that great delivery to door service for just about anything? Like that air conditioning and heat with the flick of a switch? Folks, all brought to us by this countries delivery system called infrastructure. And guess what? Someone had to give up their land to provide for this system. And the greatest accomplishment was our interstate highway system, brought to you by the last great republican president, Dwight Eisenhower. Income tax rates under Ike were close to 90 percent during the times most refer to as the good ole days. Folks, the only thing we can count on is change, and generally most of it is for the better.

  3. If you own a piece of rural property in Texas, get ready to have it taken from you, split into 2 or more parts, ruined by some project that is there because someone, with the right to condemn YOUR land sees $$$$. Do not expect to share in their gain. Toll Roads, Bullet Trains, Pipelines, Expanded Highways, Power Lines to bring electricity to development that does not do one thing to improve YOUR lot in life.
When a gas pipeline blows up, an oil pipeline pollutes your property, a highway ruins through & takes away property that has been in your family for generations, or a highway expansion means more noise that ruins your peaceful rural existence, see if anyone cares. Ask what about splitting the extra profits some big corporation or billionaire ears by destroying your lifestyle and you’ll get the response. “It’s for the common good. If it really is for the common good, why have you been left out? Why was your voice. along with that of your neighbors heard?
Do we need more people piling into Houston, Dallas/Ft Worth, San Antonia, or countless other metro areas? Do the folks in rural counties & small town America want more traffic, noise, & disruptions? Texas is no longer the Texas I knew for decades, and that’s a shame.

  4. It doesn’t take a person of high intelligence to figure out that this project will create new jobs. What is scarey though, is that this is the same people that are in favor of this project. Is this the same people in charge of the new Washington State rail system that made the news yesterday? All of the above. That is why the intelligent property owners that are near this project is against this project.

    1. The Washington train that wrecked yesterday is owned by Amtrak.
Texas Central Partners LLC is the ownership of the proposed DFW / Houston bullet train.
      No connection there.
Also, Texas Central has been working with Central Japan Railway Co.’s (JRC) N700-I bullet train and its Shinkansen system, which has a 52-year safety record of zero fatalities associated with train operations.
It doesn’t get any safer than that.

      1. I am glad that the citizens in Texas is being a 100% guarantee that the Japan Railway Co. is never going to crash. I am glad that the Japan Railway Co. is superior to the rest of the universe and that it will not make any noise or disturbance to the property owners. It is remarkable that we will have a bullet train that will maintain the sanctity of Texas. Thank-you Japan. We haven’t been this happy since the early 1940’s.

        1. Got a guarantee the tires on your Ford won’t fail at speed? Or that your Chevy won’t explode in an accident? A 52 year safe record stands on its own testimony, Paw-Paw, you know that. Why be proud of Germany’s rebirth after the war but not Japan’s? And yes, my grandfather fought through the Pacific, and he had very strong feelings about Japan, but that was 70 years ago, and most of us have moved on. Afterall, that’s what that generation wanted us to do.

          1. We won the war to keep our country free. 70 years later. We lose the farm, our heritage, our quietness. We lose our rights. There is no freedom, there is no rights. Communism is what I call it.

    2. The Amtrak crash in Washington wasn’t on a new rail system; the route has been there for decades, Amtrak just started using it yesterday.

      1. Our Texas of yesterday is disappearing today and will be gone tomorrow. The invasion of the liberal mindset is fueled by greed and ruining our great state. Our great home state where generations have lived is being trampled by this liberal greed. It is pathetic.

        1. The tracks were new on an old route. The engineer entered a curve at the wrong speed. Trains derail from this, it’s not due to faulty tracks or ties. The question now is, why didn’t the engineer slow down at the appropriate time, especially considering this was the first trip on a new service (other trains also use the route, this was just the first scheduled Amtrak service on this line)?
