SHERIFF HANAK ON OPEN CARRY

Washington County Sheriff, Otto Hanak, comments on Texas’ new Open Carry law.

Hanak states that he hasn’t seen or heard of any altercations or miss-happenings since the law went into effect, January 1st. He says maybe it will take one person to start carrying openly before many others follow in suit

Hanak also says that he believes that Washington and surrounding counties won’t be too effected by this new law because the county is filled with smart people who understand the law.

  1. Unfortunately, none of the above individuals even understand the updated law. The purpose of “open carry” is not to walk around with a .44 magnum revolver strapped cumbersomely to one’s hip; rather, it is to provide concealed carriers the opportunity to avoid prosecution for “printing” which is considered “assault”.

Feel free to educate yourselves as to some of these terms, better yet, take a concealed carry course. You don’t even have to carry if you don’t want to, treat it as a college course. Most people are afraid of what they do not want or cannot comprehend. People that are not knowledgeable are entitled to their opinions too and this is still a free country; however, you expose yourself as being ignorant to these facts and that is where the responsible gun owners will roll their eyes at you.

This benevolent law was passed to give a right that is being infringed upon a leg to stand on. The beauty of our democracy is that not everyone feels that the same issue is important, that is why we have elections and why you are encouraged to vote. If you have expressed any concern here but have not voted, or you have voted but not done your research that is what allows this to “problem” to be perpetuated. Your ignorance is not blissful to me.

  2. Our legislature passed this legislation for one reason, “VOTE pandering”. And every politician that voted for it, is guilty of this disgusting practice. There are so many more subjects worthy of getting the voters attention. Better education standards( stop reducing graduation requirements) , tax breaks for indigent seniors, improved mental health care, and the list goes on.

    1. Some may see this as voter pandering, others of us see it as our state lawmakers helping to make sure our constitutional rights are not being taken away despite aggressive efforts to do just that by our current administration who seems to have no respect for our constitution and the roles of separate but equal branches of the federal government. Executive orders anyone………….

I am always amazed at people who think just because a law is passed in one area, that other issues are being ignored or left off the table. Lawmakers can and do have the ability to work on multiple pieces of legislation at once. It may not be your pet issues, but they do work on many things at once.

    2. That’s right!! They should have voted for more free stuff for the welfare class, more taxes for the working class, and more government feel good laws to make the masses feel good or safe or happy! Please…………

    3. Citizen, why is politicians voting for what the majority of their constituents wanted, “Vote pandering”? If the politician wants to keep their job don’t they need to vote the way the people they represent wants them too.
