STATE COVID NUMBERS CONTINUE TO RISE

Numbers released Monday by the State of Texas show another 785 Texas residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and there have been 31 more deaths linked to the novel coronavirus.

Sunday, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported at total of 47,784 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,336 deaths.

Officials say the actual numbers are likely higher because many people have not been tested and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.

  1. The Hong Kong Flu was hitting hard the summer of 1969. That same summer at Max Yasgur’s farm in NY thousands upon thousands of people enjoyed three days of music, love and harmony. Woodstock, where there no face masks, no social distancing and no lockdowns

    Something to think about

  2. I know there are those who will read this article and panic, claiming we all must be shrink wrapped in plastic and forced to never leave our homes under penalty of death, or something even worse….

But lets be very real, testing for the virus is now widely available and as more people are tested, the numbers will go up. The more you look for something, the more likely you are to find it.

    1. I fear that many persons who feel that increasing testing will lead to obviously increasing numbers (and critcize the persons who say that reopening should be at a slower pace) fail to take into account what is taught in statistical survey courses. That is, while more surveying WILL show more information, there is still the subgroup (here, those that are newly infected) that will increase and not be noted until another survey is made. It is very difficult to separate those who are infected much earlier (and that have only been recently tested) from those who were recently infected.
One issue of concern for me is the fact that as businesses, bars, and restaurants re-open, reports (and video) comes from all areas showing people disregarding social distancing suggestions. However, that is not surprising, as people text and drive, drink and drive, drive recklessly, and no one (or entity) will step in to take a firm grip of the situation. We are a nation of many personal freedoms, and the freedoms we enjoy may also be our detriment.

      1. Under no circumstances, EVER, would I consider our freedom, our liberty, to be to our detriment! We are a nation founded on human rights and freedom and to claim that our freedom will be a detriment, in my opinion, reflects a fundamental lack of knowledge about who and what we are as a nation. I strongly suggest anyone who feels this way exam the various atrocities that have occurred around the world and look at the people who gave up their freedoms for the illusion of safety, you will find it did not end well for them. At some point, some common sense must prevail. If you are afraid, in an at risk group, or have other issues please stay home, but leave the rest of us alone.
