WASHINGTON CO. GO TEXAN THIS WEEKEND AT LA BAHIA HALL

One of the largest fundraisers for college-bound students in Washington County gets underway this weekend.

The 2020 Washington County Go Texan fundraiser is set for Friday and Saturday at the La Bahia Hall in Burton.

The Barbecue Cook-off begins Friday night, featuring brisket, ribs, chicken, and steak shoot-out, along with contests for margaritas, Bloody Marys, and jack pot beans.  Saturday will feature the announcement of the barbecue winners, live and silent auctions, and a dance with the Risky Liver Band with a $10 cover charge.  Guests are invited to bring their coolers, as the bar will be closed.

Washington County Go Texan committee member Debra Leroy Wenckens says it’s really hard to not have a good time with all of the weekend’s activities.

For over 30 years, the Washington County Go Texan Committee has contributed over $800,000 in scholarship funds to Brenham and Burton High School seniors.  Last year’s event allowed the committee to award over $22,000 in scholarships and contribute to its Blinn Scholarship Endowments.

A few spots are still available for teams to sign up for the
Barbecue Cook-off.  Entry forms are available from any Go Texan committee member.  Signup is limited to 50 teams.

  1. For a bit more clarity, I think the story should read La Bahia Hall AT Burton rather than IN Burton. I grew up between Burton and La Bahia Hall. There is a hall IN Burton, but it’s the American Legion Hall.
