WENDISH FESTIVAL SUNDAY

The 29th annual “Wendish Fest” will be held in Serbin tomorrow (Sunday) at the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum Complex and St. Paul Lutheran Church picnic grounds.

Beginning Sunday morning with an 8:30 English church service and a 10:30 German church service, “Wendish Fest” will have activities the entire day.  A German meal including sausage, sauerkraut and Wendish noodles will be served from 9:30 to 1:30 at the picnic grounds.  The Tubameisters, a group of former band directors, will perform throughout the day.  Exhibits and demonstrations will include Wendish Easter Egg decorating, quilting, basket weaving and Wendish pickle tasting.  Contests include noodle making, sausage stuffing and wine making.

There will also be plenty of children’s activities including stick horse races, a coloring contest, greased pole climbing, face painting, train rides and a bounce house.

Also at the picnic grounds you can watch demonstrations of stone grinding corn meal, corn shelling, sauerkraut making and blacksmithing.  Vintage firefighting and farm equipment will be on display, along with classic autos.

Since 2014 Wendish Fest has raised $33,000 for scholarships awarded to the students of Wendish heritage.
