Firefighters worked quickly this (Thursday) morning to put out a vehicle fire in downtown Chappell Hill and prevent it from spreading to a local business.

The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded around 11 a.m. to a vehicle fire directly outside the Bluebonnet House and Garden Center at 5095 Main Street.  Due to the fire’s proximity to the building, the call was upgraded to a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a black Ford F-150 on fire outside the front door to the business.

Mutual aid was requested from the Brenham Fire Department and later the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department.  Main Street was temporarily shut down.

Radio scanner traffic indicated that the fire was contained to the truck, with no extension into the structure.

No injuries were reported, and all units returned to service shortly after noon.

Witnesses stated that the truck was off when the fire started.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
