CITY COUNCIL BUYS CARS AND TRUCKS

It was a day for buying cars and trucks at Thursday’s meeting of the Brenham City Council.

The Council approved a purchase order for two new fire trucks approved in the current city budget.  Fire Chief Ricky Boeker told the Council these trucks are replacing two older trucks that have come to the end of their useful lives.  The two new trucks are coming under budget.  Boeker told the Council the total costs will be $1,319,000, about $30,000 less than the expected cost.  Boeker said this was because the Council allowed the fire department go ahead and make the purchase now, locking the current lower price, and pay for them when the fire department takes delivery, some eight to nine months from now.  Boeker says it will take about nine months to build the trucks.

The City Council also purchased five new police pursuit units to replace the existing vehicles under the police department’s five year vehicle replacement program.  Police Chief Rex Phelps told the Council that each cars have a basic cost of $23,000 but fully outfitting them for police use will take another $20,000.  The Brenham Police Department will purchase the five new vehicle through the TXSmartBuy State Purchasing Cooperative.
