Superintendent Sam Bell announced that part of the old Alton Elementary School at 304 Kerr St. will be a possible lease by a film company, RB Productions. The company wishes to lease between seven and ten classrooms for a maximum of 8 months for a lease amount of $18,000 a month, excluding utilities, insurance, and complete clean-up of the building once production had ceased. The Board approved a resolution to allow the superintendent to take action on the lease once one is approved.
Also mentioned was the plan to move the Community Education into part of the old Alton when the lease of the building had concluded.
A report was given by each BISD campus on activities and accomplishments of the past two weeks.
The principal of Alton Elementary, Michael Ogg, gave his report on the Alton Elementary 2014-2015 School Improvement Plan. The school did not meet their target score in the Index 4, which is Postsecondary Readiness. Because of missing this one index, the campus did not earn a “Met Standard” rating, and improvement is required. The campus will work with Professional Service Provider, a campus improvement team, and a District Coordinator of School Improvement to examine multiple sources of campus data and develop and submit a School Improvement Plan..
Also held was the first public meeting on the Annual School “FIRST” Accountability Rating for Brenham ISD, which received a Superior Rating, which is the state’s highest rating. Director of Business and Finance Kim Horne, will guide the Board through the annual process. The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas’ school finance system.
The public report of Progress of Highly Qualified Teacher Requirements was presented, and it was announced that all campuses but Brenham High School received a 100% of classes being taught by Highly Qualified Teachers; The high school receiving a rating of 99.8%. “Teachers” refer also to teachers receiving high-quality professional development as well as paraprofessionals.
