FAYETTE COUNTY DEPUTIES ARREST HABITUAL CRIMINAL FOR THEFT

Fayette Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a theft call on Saturday at a convenience store in Ellinger which led to an arrest of whom police refer to as a habitual criminal.

Deputy Mark Zimmerman and Sgt. Ron Naumann were dispatched to the store and met with the victim and store employees. The incident involved the theft of a cellular telephone from a vehicle parked at the fuel pumps.

Video footage at the store quickly revealed the involvement of a male subject lurking nearby. Deputies made contact with the subject who gave conflicting and inconsistent information in regard how and when he arrived at the location.

The male subject also claimed no knowledge of a vehicle that he was observed driving and exiting as viewed on the video surveillance.

Deputies eventually arrested the suspect, and discovered that the vehicle had been taken from a motel in Angleton without permission.

Arrested and charged with Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle and Criminal Trespass is thirty-six year old James Chance Owen of Lago Vista.

Deputy Terry Guentert assisted with the arrest and investigation.
