GABRIEL SAYS HE IS STILL IN THE RACE FOR MAYOR

Dr. Gary Gabriel, a candidate running for mayor against current mayor Milton Tate, announced late Tuesday afternoon that he is still in the race for mayor, despite earlier in the day announcing that he was withdrawing from the race.

Gabriel says that because his requested late exit from the race after the deadline of March 4, he will still be on the ballot, and will still attend the Candidates Forum on Thursday night

Gabriel had announced that “there is an alleged incident that has been brought to my attention, and will require my full focus for an indefinite period of time.”

Gabriel went on to say that  “no charges have been filed,” but refused to elaborate more, other than to say that he is troubled by the timing of this incident, and that the incident is being investigated at this time.

Brenham City Secretary Jeana Bellinger says the deadline to withdraw from the election was March 4.  So, while Gabriel had wished to be withdraw from the campaign, his name will still appear on the ballot, opposite Mayor Milton Tate.
