RAIN FROM BILL POSES BIG PROBLEMS FOR LAKE SOMERVILLE

Engineers at Lake Somerville are keeping an eye on the skies to see how rain from Tropical Storm Bill will affect the water levels at the Lake Somerville Dam.

The current level at Lake Somerville is still seventeen feet above flood stage, currently standing at 255.75 feet.

The normal level for the lake is 238 feet.

Lake Manager Emmitt Attaway says that the gates at the dam are now releasing at 2,238 cubic feet per second, and any change in that amount is dependent on how much rain falls in the area today. He says that if the rain keeps training over the same area, we could get five or six more inches of rain very quickly.

Attaway says that a decision will be possibly made tomorrow to make any changes, if necessary.
