BLINN THEATRE DIRECTOR’S PUBLISHES NEW VERSION OF “A TELL-TALE HEART”
Blinn College – Brenham campus theatre director Bradley Nies has updated one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous short stories for the stage.
Nies’s theatrical version of “The Tell-Tale Heart” will be published by Next Stage Press and will be available to the public soon. The script was a final project for a class Nies was taking at Texas Tech University as part of his professional development.
“It is very exciting to have this published,” Nies said. “This is a one-act play that will run about an hour and I think it would be perfect for junior high or high school competitions.”
Nies has always been fond of Poe’s work and likes creepy stories.
In Nies’s updated version, the protagonist is a woman who killed her father, and the play describes the story behind the murder.
Next Stage previously published two of Nies’s plays, “Minor Inconveniences” and “Perfect Mother,” together as a paperback.
“I have been writing since junior high but had never taken it seriously because it has been hard to balance school and writing,” Nies said.
The Blinn Theatre Arts Program hosts at least eight performances each year on its Brenham and Bryan campuses and offers a quality educational foundation through study, application and experience. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/vpa/theatre.html.
